A Well Practiced Lean

Sometimes I like the challenge of editing a photo that I took in Hipstamatic. When editing raw photos, the sky is pretty much the limit, but when editing a photo that’s already been heavily processed (with now raw photo available) it can be more limiting… which can be inspiring.

I spotted this fellow in Mint Plaza and shot with Hipstamatic’s James M lens and Blanko Noir film, leaving me with a very warm and faded image. I cropped the image in Camera+ and punched up the colors a little bit, then ran it through Noir B&W to create the illusion of heavy light to the right. I then used the Overlay feature in Image Blender to layer the black and white image on top of the Camera+ edit, and finally ran that saved image through Swanko Labs’s “Secret Sauce”…. which I then layered back on top of the Camera+ image until I got a blend I liked.

About DocPop

It all started with games.. During his daily ride on SF BART, Doctor Popular would constantly drain his new iPhone's battery playing Field Runners, but this app obsession soon spread from games to music. Using apps like Nanoloop and Thumbjam, Doc created an an entire album with his iPhone. He was also one of the first street musicians to perform with an iPad. Now Doc spends most of his spare time creating photography and visual art with his iPhone. Currently he is working on The Daily App Experiment, a year long collection of experimental art, and a book collecting his "appsperiments".
