Wednesday night was my first pro-iPhone photography gig. Actually… I suppose it was my first pro photo-gig of any kind (not counting video). I was hired by the folks at Postagram to take iPhone portraits at the annual First Round Capital party in SF. These photos would later be sent out as Postagrams to all of the attendees… which is totally awesome, right?! Right?!

Rather than taking straightforward headshots and then processing them with Camera+ later, I decided to use Hipstamatic for the entire shoot. Changing filters frequently and never really having a straightforward view of what the shot was going to look like kept the shots spontaneous and fun. It turns out that shooting from an iPhone had also several advantages like controlling filters and effects in real time, but my favorite part of shooting with a mobile phone was that it was easy to stay casual while shooting. As a matter of fact, most of my favorite shots from the night came while talking to people while discretely taking their photos. Here are some of my favorite “between poses” shots from the evening. BTW, the first few pics capture people’s reactions to seeing a giant Photojojo lens on my iPhone :)

Big thanks to Matt and the rest of the Postagram crew! I can’t wait for people to start getting their Postagrams in the mail!

About DocPop

It all started with games.. During his daily ride on SF BART, Doctor Popular would constantly drain his new iPhone's battery playing Field Runners, but this app obsession soon spread from games to music. Using apps like Nanoloop and Thumbjam, Doc created an an entire album with his iPhone. He was also one of the first street musicians to perform with an iPad. Now Doc spends most of his spare time creating photography and visual art with his iPhone. Currently he is working on The Daily App Experiment, a year long collection of experimental art, and a book collecting his "appsperiments".
