earlier this summer, my interweb homie and fellow instagrammer @whittiersam posted his photo journey through a former california youth authority facility. please check him out on Instagram for the full dealio and just more rawsomeness.
the hipstamtic combo he chose, gave his story a sophisticated documentary feel with a gorgeous, moody reverence – capturing drama without being overly dramatic.
i was super flabbergasted when he asked if i would edit some of his shots.
i had appreciated the way he had not muffled the stories that echo from its walls. it gave me the space to reflect on my own, vulnerable teenage self. how i might of reacted, finding myself there. how, despite my actions, what would have been going through my mind.
my reinterpretations of his shots reflect the topsy turvy alienation of finding myself removed from life as i had known it… aboard a ship of fools and its ghosts…destination unknown.

These are fantastic – having also been on the inside serving – but not serving time – when filled with folks and other spots like this – things can get loud. You captured the noise very well. Thanks for adding the Dopez to my pics!
